Additional downloads now available for Verizon Palm Treo 700w owners… powered by "direct push email" through Microsoft Windows Mobile 5.0, enabled for 750kbps cellular Internet access, and fully-integrated with Exchange Server & Outlook 2003!  (Not to be confused with the Palm Treo 650, which uses the PalmOS, only runs at 100kbps, and has no Exchange integration whatsoever.  Yecch.)

(This is a fantastic browser compliment to Pocket Internet Explorer – it will render pages identically to how they appear on Windows-based PCs… flash and all.)

(This is by the people that originally brought you "Ghost", until Symantec bought them out.  Sprite creates images of your Windows Mobile device’s memory and storage for backuping)

INFO: Windows Vista acceleration “technology names”

Windows PC Accelerators is the new term that encompasses Windows Vista’s new performance-enhancing technologies.  The Windows PC Accelerators are:
  • Windows® SuperFetch™
  • Windows® ReadyBoost™ (formerly code-named “EMD”)
  • Windows® ReadyDrive™ (formerly code-named “Piton”)
Feature descriptions and sample usage follow:
  • Windows SuperFetch™ is a memory management innovation in Windows Vista that helps make your PC consistently responsive by tracking what applications are used most on a given machine and intelligently preloading these applications into memory.
  • Windows ReadyBoost™ (formerly code-named “EMD”) makes PCs running genuine Windows Vista more responsive by using flash memory on a USB drive, SD Card, Compact Flash, or other memory form factor to boost system performance.    (Sample Usage: Windows ReadyBoost™ is an easy way to make my computer feel faster.  I just put in a USB key and follow the instructions on the screen.  Note:  This MUST be a USB 2.0 200x "extreme performance" to work)

  • Windows ReadyDrive™ (formerly code-named “Piton”)  enables Windows Vista PCs equipped with a hybrid hard drive to boot up faster, resume from hibernate in less time, and preserve battery power.  Hybrid hard drives are a new type of hard disk, which integrate non-volatile flash memory with a traditional hard drive.
Sample Usage: I want to be sure my next laptop has a hybrid hard disk so I can use Windows ReadyDrive™.

HOTFIX: Very important patch for PKI IPsec users

Today, we are excited to announce the immediate availability of a brand new hotfix for IPsec that provides major deployment improvements for Server and Domain Isolation, as well as eases on-going maintenance.

This hotfix (known as the “Simple Policy” update or ND-lite) adds functionality to Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 to greatly simplify IPsec policy creation and maintenance in Server and Domain Isolation scenarios. In the majority of cases, the installation of this hotfix significantly reduces the number of IPsec filters that are required for a Server or Domain Isolation deployment. We expect that this will result in the reduction of the number of IPsec filters from hundreds to only two (2).

The “Simple Policy” update will be most useful in the following scenarios:

  • Reducing the complexity of an existing Server Isolation and/or Domain Isolation deployment
  • Removing IPsec deployment blocking issues due to the complexity of the IPsec policy involved, e.g.  where there are a large number of policy exceptions

The hotfix can be found via knowledgebase article KB 914841. It is available on the hotfix servers and will be rolled into subsequent service packs for Windows XP and Windows Server 2003. KB reference: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/914841/en-us

RELEASE: SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 1

We have officially released SP1 for SQL Server 2005 and is available to everyone at http://www.microsoft.com/sql/sp1.mspx

SP1 includes the production ready version of Database Mirroring, SQL Server Management Studio Express, two new Reporting Services components for SAP support, along with additional updates to Express Edition and routine fixes and feature adjustments.

The two new SAP components in SP1 are a Microsoft .NET provider for SAP NetWeaver Business Intelligence and a new MDX Query Designer. This new functionality enables all SAP customers to benefit from enterprise reporting provided by SQL Server.
We now have a service called Microsoft Exchange Hosted Services that enables companies to implement traditional high-level security services for their messaging environment without the overhead of implementing the infrastructure or administrative responsibilities.

Exchange Hosted Services operates over the Internet and provides the follwing capabilities:
– Filtering for spam and virus protection
– Archiving to satisfy compliance requirements and internal policies
– Encryption to preserve email confidentiality
– Continuity for on going access to email during and after disasters

Services cost depends on the functionality the customer wants.  Here’s some rough numbers of what you can anticipate:
Microsoft Exchange Hosted Filtering:  $1.09/user/month
Microsoft Exchange Hosted Archiving:  $12.98/user/month
Microsoft Exchange Hosted Archiving – Extra Storage:  $3.61/user/month
Microsoft Exchange Hosted Encryption: $1.41/user/month
Microsoft Exchange Hosted Continuity: $1.85/user/month

Basically, it minimizes the complexity of backup, compliance, SPAM filtering, virus protection, and uptime for customers.
