TOOL: Lookout – Indexing engine for Outlook 2003

Speaking of Sandbox, there is a really cool tool that we bought called Lookout.  It’s not being developed any more in deference to MSN Desktop Search however, I think it’s still a REALLY good indexing engine.

Basically it puts a GOOGLE bar into your Outlook, and when you’re not looking, it indexes your Outlook mailbox. (the online store or more specifically, the .OST mail cache file on your local drive)  It also will index, at your wish, your .PST files which might contain archives of mail, and your documents in your "MY DOCUMENTS" folder.

It’s very fast and very accurate.  It does rankings and everything and is enabled for drag and drop.  Download it and try it!  It’s free!

MSN SEARCH: New Search Page

I just got sent this – this is some site that does News Searching as well as Image searching that MSN Search is working on.  It’s exposed to the Internet and I think it’s affliated with http://sandbox.msn.com so I don’t think it’s NDA or anything.  Take a look:

The Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) is one of the largest trade shows in the world, and the premier trade event for the electronic games industry.  On Monday night, J Allard, Peter Moore, and Robbie Bach will present details of the new console, announce some important partnerships, demo games and services, and offer up a few surprises.  You can be part of it by watching it live!  Xbox.com is hosting a live webcast of the Microsoft E3 Briefing.  You can also watch it on demand, starting Tuesday.

DATE/TIME:  Monday, May 16, 7:00 PM PDT
http://www.xbox.com

I have a few E3 guest passes for employees of Countrywide or Mattel.   Regristration opens at Monday May 16th, 8:00AM.  The actual expo portion of E3 (the part we have access to) is open on May 18th.

This will be a great way to hear about the next-generation XBox.  Or at least be a part of the hoopla.  Oh yeah – also, we have a TV special on MTV that will introduce the world to the new console called "MTV Presents: The Next Generation Xbox Revealed" on Thursday, May 12th at 6:30PM on MTV.

So anyway, if you’re interested and would like to go to E3 as a guest of Microsoft, and of course you’re my customer (and for those of you reading this that aren’t affiliated with Countrywide or Mattel, I’m sorry but I don’t have anything for the public) please catch me the next time I’m walking through and I’ll get you one.  If you haven’t been there before, be aware that it’s sheer chaos getting registered so you’ll want to get in line VERY EARLY with your E3 pass, and two forms of identification to "prove your involvement in the Entertainment industry".

On June 30th, 2005, the Windows 2000 Product family (including Windows 2000 Server, Advanced Server, Datacenter Server, and Windows 2000 Professional client) will transition from its Mainstream Support to its Extended Support Phase. This transition marks the progression of Windows 2000 through its product lifecycle. The Windows 2000 family entered the marketplace in February 2000 and remains a robust, mature product as it enters its 5-year Extended Support lifecycle phase.

Overview:

  • Microsoft offers a minimum of 10 years’ support (5 years Mainstream + 5 years Extended) for Business and Developer products. Microsoft’s Support Lifecycle policy provides transparent, predictable coverage of Microsoft products and continues to set the standard for product support policies industry-wide
  • On June 30th, 2005, the Windows 2000 Product family (including Windows 2000 Server and Advanced Server) will transition from its Mainstream Support to its Extended Support Phase. Extended Support for Windows 2000 will continue for at least five years, through June 2010.
  • Microsoft is not ending support for Windows 2000. During the Extended Support phase Microsoft will continue to provide security hot fixes and paid support but will no longer provide complimentary support options, design change requests, and non-security hotfixes (without an Extended Hotfix Support Agreement, which must be acquired by Sept. 30th for non-SA customers).

Creating and Deploying Outlook Web Access Themes

Summary

This topic provides information intended to help Exchange administrators in the design and modification of Microsoft Office Outlook Web Access for Exchange Server 2003 themes.

When designing the Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 release of Outlook Web Access, Microsoft decided to unify the use of style sheets. This decision kept the appearance of the Outlook Web Access client similar to that of Microsoft Office Outlook 2003. In the course of this work, a few highly enthusiastic folks on the Outlook Web Access team realized that it would be relatively easy to offer a "skin" or "theme" capability to the release. Because of these efforts, you can create your own Outlook Web Access themes. This topic covers the basics of creating and deploying a theme in Outlook Web Access.
