VIDEO/PODCAST: The History of Microsoft (25 videos spanning 1975-1999)

image In case you haven’t seen this, “The History of Microsoft” – a 25 video podcast series – is fully available from Channel 9 in a single RSS feed:

Each video is an 8-10 minute recap of all the major ‘happenings’ of the time at Microsoft.  Interestingly they decided not to do the year 2000+.  Hopefully they’ll revisit those in the year 2015?

Additionally, the RSS feed itself includes a text transcript of each major highlight discussed in the video as well as “other notable events in the world during that year”.

Major years to check out IMHO include:

  • 1997
This was the year of Terminal Services, the acquisition of WebTV, and the release of IE 4.0.
  • 1995
This was the year I joined… when the company was only 17,000 people.  And we released Windows 95.
  • 1990
The release of Windows 3.0:  The first version of Windows to go ‘blockbuster’.
