Additionally, many of us need to leverage and extend existing investments in line-of-business applications running on mainframe and midrange systems to offer new products and services. Today, this means modernizing existing applications as part of move towards a Services Oriented Architecture. Unfortunately, mainframe and midrange development tools and runtime environments are not well-designed for efficiently delivering XML-based or Web-based solutions. These components enable network, security, messaging, data and application integration of host-based systems with Microsoft Windows-based and .NET Framework-enabled solutions.
